THR’s Linden said Keaton’s character “is the essence of convention-defying modernity and independence, and all the more fascinating for her off-putting contradictions.”
In one of many collaborations with Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer, Keaton’s driven management consultant J.C. Wiatt finds herself surprisingly having to care for a 14-month-old baby after a distant cousin dies and leaves her the child as her inheritance.
Keaton teamed with Meyers and Shyer again for their remake of Father of the Bride, starring as mother of the bride Nina Banks in the 1991 film and its sequel opposite Steve Martin’s titular character, George Banks.
